January was a long, cold month! We spent a lot of it at home working on projects – but that’s not really different from any other time of the year, I guess.
A show in early January. Here’s Emi playing as Strawberry Runners!
Punk house dog, caught with funny ears.
Ali on her bday, showing off her double jointedness.
At home, everyone wearing plaid.
The only place in our house that I sit now that we’ve gotten our fireplace working.
We did vegetarian Whole30 for the month of January. We’ve done Whole30 several times before and it always feels great. It’s a good way to remind yourself how good you could feel, before you slippery slide back into eating garbage again. It’s nice to have a point of comparison, though, and this time around it helped me confirm that I have a treenut allergy or sensitivity. My allergies have been terrible forever and I’m hoping this might be part of the missing piece for improving those symptoms.
We got home from holiday travels to a broken dryer, so we went for it and got a new washer and dryer set. The only new appliance we’ve bought, so far! It was exciting enough for me to take photos of it. The funnier part is when people came to install them, they reached around and flipped on some bright fluorescent lights in our basement that we didn’t know were even there. Our minds were blown. We’ve lived here two and a half years and never knew about that light switch. Ha.
Going to see our friend’s music project, The Bepstein Show, which was happening after a weird dance party quizzo night. I had never played quizzo before, but since we were there anyway to see our friends band, we all played and it was pretty fun. All the questions were music related and we were actually in the lead until the last round!
The Bepstein Show
Maple in the car, her least favorite thing.
But it leads to good things, usually, like playdates with her good bud Bailey.
At work with baby Olive, at three months old. So far, she’s as easy as can be (crossing my fingers as to not jinx that, obviously.) She already looks a lot older since I took this photo!
A weirdly warm day in the middle of January, french doors open. I love a good mid-winter warm day to let fresh air in throughout the house.
Back to the cold.
A rare meal out during Whole30, to V Street, where all of the items are already dairy free and most of them are gluten free, so it wasn’t too tricky.
Brunch with Gabby, who was also doing Whole30. We made ‘pancakes’ with a recipe that just includes eggs, banana, and almond butter.
Mid-January tromp through the woods at Ridley Creek State Park.
My one true wish is, when we take Maple on hikes, that she wouldn’t feel anxious. She spends the whole time racing around trying to figure out where she is or seems like she’s trying to ‘get somewhere’ and doesn’t enjoy it like a regular walk. We always bring her, of course, because it would be weird to go on a nice long walk for enjoyment without bringing our dog who lives for that idea, but it definitely takes away some of the relaxation element! Pets.
Weekend work date at a coffeeshop, something we used to do allll the time but have mostly stopped doing since we got a house of our own and can take up whatever space we like. It still feels nice to do, though.
A visit from Shannon toward the end of January.
Fern came for two weeks while her person was taking a long vacation to Thailand. Fern was our first foster and someone we know adopted her so we are fortunate enough to get to keep the dogs as buddies, and also do dog sitting trades.
Mikey playing a show at Lava as The Goodbye Party.
How most of my Hazel pics look.
But every now and then I can get her to slow down.
She’s a wild bird and I love her.
