Last week was Halloween week. Between celebrating with the nanny kids and going to a party myself, most of my photos will be related to that.
We had a string of really warm days, in the high 60’s and 70’s. It felt so nice to be outside in fewer layers for a little bit.
Last week seemed to mark the transition for Eddie where I stopped being the new nanny that he’s still trying to figure out and became an actual trusted friend. Now he wants to hold my hand everywhere we go and sits in my lap most of the time we’re playing at home.
We go for a lot of long walks during our nanny days because it’s fun for both of us and makes the time go by faster. On a walk last week, I passed by a bookstore and my book was there in the window display! I didn’t know that store even stocked my book.
I really kicked into gear last week and got 5 pet portraits done in one week. I found a good flow where I can get a whole pencil sketch done during my nanny day while the boys are napping (if I’m lucky), and then finishing inking it at night when I get home.
Halloween was on Thursday, so after a pretty routine week with lots of nannying and drawing, it was a nice way to mix things up. The parents for both families came a little early to get the kids ready for the Halloween parade.
In West Philly on Halloween, there’s a route blocked off where kids parade down the street trick or treating en masse and get to an end point where there’s music and decorations and refreshments. It was very chaotic, but in a good way.
The block where the parade stops.
Switching gears, after the parade I went to a Halloween party/cover show at my friends’ house. It was fun but definitely less cute.
Mikey and I went as Beavis and Butthead.
Not my most flattering look.
Mike very fittingly went as a bad joke, “time to go to the dentist”
Mikey and Jen’s band, The Ambulars, played a cover set of the Lemonheads.
The first time Mikey’s ever played guitar in short shorts?
I didn’t get to see most of the other bands because I kept getting down to the basement too late and it was too hard to get up close. But this photo was while a Cocksparrer band, led by my friend Grace, played.
The band that closed out the night was a KISS cover band that our friends Perry and Christian played in. They really went for it with their costumes.
I stayed out way too late, and then went to work the next morning. Good thing I don’t drink! I can’t imagine working with kids after a night of partying. It’s hard enough when you’re just sleepy. Friday was pretty easy going and Eddie and I had our afternoon yogurt cake break.
I finished another portrait while he napped.
Friday night we didn’t have any plans really, so Mikey and I went out for dinner and then found out some friends were having a firepit, so we headed over. It was nice to see Sergio and Paul, who recently moved to Philly from New York.

I didn’t take photos of the rest of the weekend, but it was pretty low key and I got to catch up on a lot of stuff. Phew.
